This was about as good as it gets for food photography briefs - fire and smoke are wonderful to work with aesthetically. The team at The Dunvegan, located in the north west of the Isle of Skye, asked me to capture the essence of their family-run business.

Specialising in cooking locally sourced and sustainable produce over fire, the shoot was a pleasure to do with so much going on - a real feast for the eyes as well as the aromas and flavours.

Additionally, The Dunvegan offers rooms for those looking to stay in the area and a coffeeshop serving specialty coffee and home made cakes and bakes - these were the subject of additional photoshoots on location.

'Beads' is a local artist and craftsman living an off-grid life on the Isle of Skye under the mantle of Chapel Croft Creatures. Producing all manner of wonderful creations from items washed up on the beach at the bottom of his croft, and from locally sourced timber, Beads also keeps bees to produce the beeswax with which he treats the items skilfully produced in his workshop (which are delivered in person by bicycle).

Having built his house from the ground up by himself, he's a fountain of knowledge and many a tale.

We could all learn a thing or two from living life this way!

The Isle of Skye, or Eilean a' Cheò (‘The Misty Isle’) is renowned for its spectacular landscape and incredibly changeable weather (oh, and midges). Calling this beautifully rugged island ‘home’ is a privilege.

Working on a freelance basis I apply my versatile skillset to a number of local businesses, offering both photographic and drone imagery. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working within the hospitality sector capturing the magic that happens in the kitchens of The Three Chimneys and The Dunvegan.

The Three Chimneys is located in the north west of the island and is one of Skye’s best known restaurants. I’ve worked on photography at both their original restaurant location in Colbost, and also at their new home close the Talisker Distillery.

Renowned for excellent food, it’s been a pleasure working on food photography for both locations and to also shoot behind the scenes in the kitchens.

A recent shoot covered a charity event at which the Three Chimneys raised £500 while giving local school children the opportunity to help in both front and house and kitchen prep roles.

Located on a working croft on the shore of Loch Beag in Struan, The Captain’s Place is a beautifully considered 200(ish) year-old stone byre that was recently modernised to host up to 2 guests.

I was asked to capture the vibe of this beautifully finished holiday rental cottage for use with promotion on Airbnb and social media channels.

The Isle of Skye is an incredible location for drone photography and cinematography, with the dramatic landscapes painted by the ever-changing light and weather conditions.

The Black Shed is a beautiful self-catering accommodation for two in Skinidin, Isle of Skye.

As a streetphotographer I find that Leeds Pride makes for a fantastic event to document, with thousands of people flooding the City Centre in party mode to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

It’s a visual treat with participants and spectators alike very much up for having their photos taken, which is fantastic but what I really enjoy is trying to capture those story-telling moments that are so easily overlooked with so much going on.

The event grows from strength to strength year on year and is one of the highlights in the City’s events calendar for me.

Trying to anticipate and document a single, fleeting moment on the fly is can be challenging and that’s the fun - along with meeting many people that I might not otherwise.

With such a diverse demographic living and moving through Leeds, it’s a wonderful place to experience life through a lens.

In April 2018 a group of local artists brought noise and movement back to Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mill.

Using original industrial machinery, old methods, and new ideas to recapture the atmosphere of the Mill through visual art, ink, moving image and music.

I was asked to photograph the artists, their work and the electronic music performances throughout this wonderful event.
